Walking off ledges

It’s very frustrating when characters just walk off a ledge and drop down into a throng of zombies resulting in the permadeath of said character. Can an action button be applied - eg a press on the right stick on Xbox- so as the make the walking off ledges a willed action rather than involuntary.
